Black Truffle Price per Kilo

Black truffle price is the question every buyer asks first, and the grower’s answer is honest: it depends on whether you are buying ten grams or a hundred kilos.

It also depends on the grade, on the month of the season and on how much work a piece takes to clean.

This page gives the published ranges and the reasons behind them, so you can judge a price before you ask for one.

The price of black truffle this season, as published by the sector

There is no fixed list price for fresh black truffle. It moves week to week with the harvest, and quotations here are given against the pieces available, not a catalogue.

For orientation, published retail ranges for Spanish fresh black truffle in the 2025-26 season ran from around 1,500 to 3,000 euros per kilo in December, 1,000 to 2,000 in January and February, and 800 to 1,500 in March.

Ten grams or a hundred kilos

A private customer buying a piece for dinner and a distributor buying by the kilo are not paying the same price per gram, and no honest page pretends otherwise.

Why one grade costs more than another

The gap between Extra and the lower grades is not flavour. It is labour.

A round, whole truffle is cleaned in about two minutes. An irregular one, with soil in its hollows, can take fifteen. In an hour, one person cleans thirty of the first kind and four of the second, and that time is what the price per kilo reflects.

• Extra: round, whole, no cosmetic damage. The grade that costs most.
• First and Second: same aroma, irregular shape, less to pay.
• Pieces: the same truffle, broken. The lowest price of the fresh grades.

What a broken truffle is worth

A grower describes it with one example: an Extra truffle at a market reference of 1,200 euros per kilo, split in two by the knife while lifting it, drops to 150. The same truffle, at one eighth of the price.

That is why the dog must not scratch it and the person lifting it must not break it, and why pieces are the sensible buy for anything that will be grated.

How to get a price for a specific order

Send the grade, the approximate weight and the date. You receive the pieces available that week, their real weight and the price for exactly that weight, before paying anything.
